About Us

 

Springs Hill Vineyard was established in Blewitt Springs in 1975 by the Whaite family when the first plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz were put in,since then Merlot, Mourvedre and Grenache have been added. The vines are grown without irrigation in an area renowned for its ability to sustain vines on rainfall alone. It takes more time to grow vines this way but the infertile deep sands and ironstone gravel over clay eventually support hardy vines. The wine produced from these vines has a length and depth palate that is characteristic of this terroir.

Gary and Anthony Whaite have been involved in every stage of Springs Hill, from the beginnings in 1975 through to the recent establishment of the winery. The presence at every step of the process provides a rare quality of feedback between the winery and vineyard, ideas in the winery can immediately inform decisions in the vineyard. The result is wines that perfectly express the region, the grape variety and the winemaker's vision.
